An SNL stalwart says ‘goodbye’

This weekend, Saturday Night Live wrapped up its 38th season and said goodbye to longtime cast members Seth Meyers, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen. Armisen had been a featured cast member on the program for a decade and recently, he became a cult favorite due to his IFC sketch comedy show, Portlandia (with former Sleater-Kinner ax-slinger, Carrie Brownstein!). Armisen is a well-known music-lover who earned his punk stripes touring as a drummer in a variety of punk bands after dropping out of college. (Recently, he made guest appearances at a number of Dinosaur Jr shows.) To celebrate his the end of his time on SNL, Armisen turned to his recurring punk character, Ian Rubbish, for a last stand on Top of the Pops with the help of some marquee-name music icons. Watch the video below for the skit, which includes guest appearances by Carrie Brownstein, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, J Mascis, Kim Gordon, and Steve Jones.
